The seven Cornell students who formed Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity were Henry Arthur Callis A.B. ’09, Charles Henry Chapman, Special Agriculture Student ’06, Eugene Kinckle Jones, M.A. ’08, George Biddle Kelley, Civil Engineering degree ’08, Nathaniel Allison Murray B.S. ’11, Robert Harold Ogle, Special Agriculture Student, and Vertner Woodson Tandy, Special Architecture Student. Chapter History
On July 15, 1919, a group of college graduates came together to form a chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. in Atlanta and even held an initiation banquet. They had been given the chapter name Delta Lambda. However, the official sanction for their establishment was not received until after the Chicago Convention in 1919 and the name Delta Lambda was subsequently given to the brothers in Baltimore, Maryland.
